Bihar's Junior Doctors Call Off Strike
12-day strike by Junior Doctors of two government-run hospitals in Bihar came to an end with the doctors resumed their jobs on Sunday after the assurance by Bihar government to implement pay promises from August. Hospital sources confirmed, “Normal functioning of the hospitals started with the junior doctors resuming their work.”

Around 750 junior doctors of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) and the Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) have been protesting over government’s lukewarm approach towards their genuine demands including hike in stipends.

The striking doctors did not care about threats of filing criminal cases by the State human rights commission and continued with the strike. Meanwhile, the state has submitted a list of patients died due to lack of treatment following the strike led by junior doctors.

The 12 day long strike adversely hit normal functioning of both hospitals besides hitting emergency services and delaying a number of surgeries. The hospital authorities had to call doctors from other hospitals for regular medical services with the intervention of State’s health department.
