BlackBerry in no haste to release the latest OS

rim-black-padChief executive officer of Research In Motion, Mike Lazaridis, has claimed that the firm has plans to release BlackBerry phones that makes use of its latest QNX operating system and run on multi core processors.

Lazaridis further stated that Research In Motion is keeping its base on future. He stated that due to battery life and cost issues, it will be considered optimum for RIM to wait for appropriate hardware before it releases BlackBerry's with multi core processors.

In a recent interview with PC Mag, RIM's chief explained that the new smartphones will have a basic version of PlayBook's user interface. The QNX smartphones will feature probably run existing Java apps, so that people will find it smooth to shift from their existing BlackBerry's.

At the same time, RIM believes the new model to be based on its PlayBook. With iPad leading the tablet market, and RIM's PlayBook being considered a possible rival, the firm has a lot to achieve. PlayBook's browser is aimed to be develop on open standards. It further aids in Flash and performs several tasks simultaneously.

Developers who write code for PlayBook may comprise of three probable ways -- either via an extant Java app, or on OpenGL, or using Adobe Air.

QNX was developed in 1982 as Quantum Software Systems, and was acquired by RIM specifically for its tablet business.
