Blue Bell Creameries resumes Ice Cream Shipments

Blue Bell Creameries announced on Tuesday using social media sites including Twitter and Facebook that it has resumed commercial sales of ice cream. Ice cream shipment has started four months after the listeria outbreak halted the sales and production.

The company said that its trucks filled with ice creams are on the road again. Along with the message, Blue Bell has also posted a video of a Blue Bell delivery truck coming out a loading dock at its Sylacauga, Alabama facility.

A follow-up tweet read that consumers will soon get to know from where they can have the ice creams. Brenham Chamber of Commerce President Page Michel said that many store owners are quite excited after hearing the news. They are eager to sell the product.

Recalling the time when the contamination took place, Blue Bell's CEO and President Paul Kruse, said that they had to halt the production at all three plants after three people died and at least 10 feel sick due to listeria outbreak that was linked to Blue Bell facilities.

He said that it was a very tough time, as they had to lay off 1,450 employees and furloughed 1,400 others in May. Kruse said that they had taken the decision with a very heavy heart. “The agonizing decision to lay off hundreds of our great workers and reduce hours and pay for others was the most difficult one I have had to make in my time as Blue Bell's CEO and President”, stated Kruse.

Things became bit better after the company received a $125 million loan from Fort Worth billionaire Sid Bass, so they can remain in business.
