Boeing to announce its space rocket todayUS aviation major, Boeing is planning to announce that its United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket will be used as a launch vehicle for the commercial spacecraft being developed by the company to fly astronauts to space.

The company’s CST-100 is a capsule capable of carrying up to seven astronauts to the International Space Station or on other missions in the lower earth orbit. The company had chosen the Atlas V as one of four possible contenders with others being; the ULA Delta IV, the SpaceX Falcon 9 and the Liberty rocket.

The company will announce the choice of rocket at a press event today at noon. It is expected to announce Atlas V, according to sources. However, a company spokesperson has said that the decision will only be made public at the press event.

Boeing, which is one of the largest manufacturer of aero planes in the world, is one of the companies to receive seed money from NASA to develop commercial space crafts that could ferry NASA astronauts to the ISS and on other missions to space.
