‘BOSM-2009’ Kicks Off At BITS Pilani

bitsThe 24th Annual Sports Meet, 'BITS Open Sports Meet' (BOSM-2009) got off to an impressive beginning in Pilani on Wednesday 16th September. The 5-day occasion will see the involvement of over 1100 sportspersons symbolizing 45 colleges from all over the country.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Ms. Surbhi Misra, the Chief Guest for BOSM-2009 and also an under-19 National Squash Champion and Bronze Medalist at the World Junior Open 2009. She was the first Squash player from Rajasthan to win three junior national titles continuously.

The event inaugurated with lamp lighting by the Ms Surbhi Misra who was joined by the Deputy Directors Prof G Raghurama and Prof R KMittal and the Dean of Student Welfare, Prof. N V Murlidhar Rao. Guest of Honour , Prof. G Raghurama referred to Ms Surabhi Mishra - the Chief Guest as an inspiration -considering she's just 19 and making India proud in Squash. Prof .R. K. Mittal (Deputy Director, administration) requested the spectators to show the right enthusiasm and sports spirit.

Previously, the Sports Secretary Mr. Vikram who welcomed all players stated that more than 70 events would be covered during the five day meet.

A thrilling combination of sports and music, the opening event saw the exciting cultural performances from regional associations. The ceremony ended with a friendly basketball match between the host BITS Pilani and Malla Reddy College, Hyderabad signifying the spirit of warmth, cheerfulness and sportsmanship. BOSM 2009 with the total budget touching 20 lakhs is being sponsored by many popular companies and brands, with NTPC being title sponsor, meanwhile, Indian Oil and Reliance are the associate sponsors. In addition, sports brands like Adidas, Wilson, Speedo and Spalding have shown particular interest in BOSM this year.
