Brutal attacks on two people were part of a child game :PoliceAccording to Investigators, an elderly Philadelphia man beaten in the neighborhood where he has lived his entire life was a victim of children playing a violent game.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported on Wednesday that Vincent Poppa is believed to be the first victim of "catch and wreck." Children and young teens allegedly hang out in Finnegan Playground and ambush people they think are homeless.

Neither Poppa, 72, nor Belinda Moore, 42, who was assaulted Friday, is homeless. Moore took a shortcut across the playground Friday as she returned from work.

An 11-year-old boy has been charged with both assaults and a 12-year-old girl with the attack on Moore.

The Inquirer also reported that a neighbor found Poppa in his apartment in Eastwick March 14 with severe injuries.

He was attacked by a group of six children and young teens as he walked home about 9 p. m. the day before and made his way back to his apartment after lying on the street for 30 minutes, he said.

Poppa ran Vince's, a neighborhood candy store, for 30 years, Deborah Rossiter, a longtime friend, said.

Rossiter further said, "He had a heck of a reputation for treating people well, treating kids well."
