It was announced by India's top mobile operator, Bharti Airtel on Monday that mobile services in Sri Lanka has been launched by it and the company would also invest $200 million on the operation in the island.

Via its subsidiary Bharti Airtel Lanka, the company has launched the services on a third generation network. A suite of innovative services and redefined affordability by offering attractive call rates has also been launched by Airtel.

Another round of price war has begun among mobile operators. After revolutionizing the Indian mobile service market, country's leading telecom services provider, Bharti Airtel, today launched its popular Lifetime Prepaid at a lower price point of Rs 99 only.

Bharti Airtel says it intends to further expand the market, and make mobile services more affordable to its prepaid customers.

Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Ltd, a leading mobile service provider has announced that it has rolled out “Night SMS pack” for its pre-paid subscribers.

This  “Night SMS pack” with an exciting value proposition, will enable unlimited exchange of local SMS @ 1 paisa only, from 9 pm to 8 am at a cost of Rs 59 /- per month.

According to sources, the SMS pack will offer Tata Indicom subscribers another option to stay in touch with their friends and relatives more often thru SMS.

With the aim to find unsecured Wi-Fi connections, Mumbai Police would soon be covering the streets with laptops in their hands.

It seems as a necessary initiative taken up by the Mumbai Police as there were many incidents of unexpected blasts and terror attacks and suspects using Wi-Fi internet for communication. The Policemen would be required to cover several areas and locations in the city, in the search of unsecured Wi-Fi connections.

Youth-focussed mobile service provider Virgin Mobile has announced that it has linked up with MySpace for offering social networking services. Virgin Mobile users would be glad to know that under the tie up, MySpace would offer its social networking services on Virgin Mobile's WAP-enabld phones starting at Rs 2,999.

Virgin Mobile's youth clients can access to world's major social networking site by simply click on the MySpace link on vBytes and log in the user ID and password. There will be a daily charge of just Rs 5 for accessing vBytes.

On Wednesday, Airtel and Research in Motion (RIM) will announce the launch of BlackBerry Pearl Flipsmartphone in India. It has been learnt that the product would be priced at Rs 21,990.

The users are allowed to type and dial easily in the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 smartphone and the external display of smartphone provides previewing calendar reminders, email, text messages and phone calls.
