Carelessness Thwarts Hope For Visions To Blind People

Carelessness Thwarts Hope For Visions To Blind PeopleDonating eyes is considered as one of the noblest of all causes.

However, it seems some people are still not aware of this fact.

Due to lack of proper team work and carelessness, donation of as many as 20 eyes became useless when the parcels did not reach G G Hospital in Jamnagar on time.

It is learnt that the parcels containing donated eyes were found lying unattended near the billing counter of the G G hospital on Tuesday night. The donor was found to be the Jain Oswal Mahajan Samaj in Gandhidham in Kutch.

The parcels were delivered by Patel Tours and Travels around 8 pm. When local journalists still found them lying on the billing counter at 2 am, they informed it to the hospital officials, who confessed that there was a delay in the arrival of the parcels, which meant the eyes had all crossed their expiry dates.

However, the hospital officials confessed there was a delay in the arrival of the delivery, which meant the eyes had all crossed their expiry dates.

Speaking on this, Dr B D Gupta, Medical Superintendent, G G Hospital said: “For corneal transplants, the eyes can be preserved up to 72 hours at the most. The first donation was done on June 3, while the last was done on June 26. Even the last donation had passed the expiry date.”

Gupta further added that they had not requested the trust to send them any eyes.
