CBI Director slams police over rising drug mafia

CBICentral Bureau of Investigation Director Ashwani Kumar, speaking at a seminar "Drug De-addiction - Role of Law and Society" organized in Ludhiana, admitted that there is a strong and deep nexus between police and drug mafia in the country which is a major cause of substantially high drug abuse in India.

The CBI director, in the presence of Justice D. K. Jain of the Supreme Court, Punjab & Haryana High Court Chief Justice T. S. Thakur and a large number of police officials, added, "It's a reality that police officers salute drug lords these days and people belonging to the Indian Administrative Service exchange pleasantries with them."

Expressing shock over police failure to deal with drug mafia, he asked for the need to allow military to act against drug mafia.

Asked about delay in Aarushi Talwar murder case, CBI Chief said that such cases involve some mysteries and it takes time to solve them.
