Cech backs current squad to make history by becoming Chelsea's most successful side ever

Petr CechLondon, Dec 18 : Czech goalkeeper Petr Cech has urged the current Chelsea side to make history by becoming the club's most successful side ever.

The current Premier League leaders are on course for the Quadruple, despite manager Jose Mourinho's reluctance to talk up their prospects, but the Portuguese has admitted that he is so happy with his current squad that he is not planning any changes whatsoever in January.

Veteran keeper Cech believes this term could potentially be the club's best-ever season having suffered only one defeat so far, with victory away to Derby in the Capital One Cup quarterfinals on Tuesday boosting their prospects, The Mirror reported.

As well as continuing their assault on the title, Chelsea will host Championship side Watford in the FA Cup third round and face French champions Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last 16 in February and March.

Cech, who joined Chelsea in 2004, has insisted that the current squad is capable of eclipsing Mourinho's achievements from his first spell in charge, from 2004-2007, when the club won the title twice under the Special One, plus two League Cups and the FA Cup.

However, the club's 2009-2010 campaign, under Carlo Ancelotti, is considered their most successful ever, after bagging the Community Shield, they completed a first domestic Double of the title and FA Cup.

Cech said that this team has the potential and the quality to become one of the best teams in Chelsea's history if it proves it by winning the trophies. But he added that he keeps saying one can only judge teams at the end of the season when one sees how much the team achieves.

The goalkeeper said that in this moment, they have been doing remarkably well but added that they have no trophy in their hands. So he said that let's see what's going to be the case at the end of the season. (ANI)
