Kuala Lumpur  - A Chinese woman slashed her wrists in front of the United States embassy in Malaysia's capital Kuala Lumpur after she was denied entry into the building, a news report said Friday.

The 56-year-old woman was believed to have gone to the embassy to seek help in locating her son whom she claimed had gone to the US, said district police chief Ahmad Amir Mohamad Hashim.

The woman slashed her wrists several times before collapsing by the main road outside the embassy on Thursday, he was quoted as saying by the Star daily.

She was sent to a nearby Kuala Lumpur hospital where police are waiting for her to regain consciousness to find out the reason for her actions, it said.

Embassy officials have declined to comment on the incident. (dpa)
