Kuala Lumpur, Feb 5 : As was already expected, Malaika Arora Khan’s gyrating hips stole the show at the Zee Bollywood Nite 2012 held in Kuala Lumpur.
The 38-year-old’s revealing outfit and sensual moves, coupled with her super model looks, made it a night to remember for the audience at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre, the Star Online reported.
Backed by four male and four female dancers, the model moved and mimed to a medley of songs that included ‘Chaiya Chaiya’ and ‘Dabangg’.

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 10 - Portraying of religious preachers as ghost-busters using verses from holy Quran in horror films being made in Malaysia has irked Islamic scholars.
The preachers, called "ustaz" are shown appeasing spirits of ghosts in many horror films that are made locally and are popular with the cine-goers.
Islamic scholars and preachers have called on film directors and scriptwriters to consult religious experts "to protect the faith of Muslim viewers", New Straits Times reported Monday.
Bollywood choreographer to start dance school in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, Aug 9 - Indian actress Tabu is among the Bollywood stars who are here to promote choreographer Saroj Khan's dance academy that will open the doors to Malaysian students in September.
The Saroj Khan Dance Academy is a joint-venture between Khan and her local partner, Pen 'N' Camera (M) Sdn Bhd.
"Fans can look forward to more of the glitter of Bollywood," The Star said Monday.
It described Tabu as "the leggy beauty" who won critical acclaim for her role in a number of films including "Chandni Bar".

Kuala Lumpur, Feb 7 : Actress Christy Yow, who played the legendary striptease Rose Chan in her new movie Mei Gui Xiang (The charming Rose) and acted in several Singapore Chinese dramas, has posed nude for a magazine in Singapore.
Courtesy the daring act, the stunner has become the first Malaysian nude cover girl, reports The Daily Chilli.
She appears on the cover of the first issue of a movie magazine called F*** (Film, Fame & Frank) that hit the streets last week.
"The cover look amazing! I certainly look amazing - awesome," she said.
Malaysia in damage control mode over attack on churches

The move came as 130 Muslim non-government organisations (NGOs) offered to be "eyes and ears" of the government to keep a watch on the Christian shrines across the country to avoid further attacks.

600 Indian farmers face eviction from Malaysia’s Cameron Highlands

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 8 : Six hundred Indian families, who have been involved in agriculture for the past 50 years in Cameron Highlands, about 214 km north of Kuala Lumpur, are now facing eviction.
Cameron Highlands Indian Farmers Association president P. Viswanathan said that most of the farmers were on temporary occupancy licence (TOL) land.
He said the Government had received reports that their agricultural waste products were being emptied into the rivers resulting in drinking water being contaminated.

But it is not only the children who find the SRJK (T) Ladang Ban Heng school nice. Even their parents do.
Muhammad Khair Allie Mohd Tazili, 7, has in just one week learned how to greet people in Tamil, calling out "vanakam (greetings)".
He is among 14 students studying at SRJK (T) Ladang Ban Heng, the only Tamil school in the state with Malay students.

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 8 - The Malaysian government Friday threatened stern action following attacks on three churches in the outskirts of the national capital following controversy over the use of the word 'Allah' by a Roman Catholic journal.
Muslim youths caused arson at the churches to press for government action to annul a high court ruling last week that upheld the journal's right to use the word on its masthead.
Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak condemned the attacks on the three churches.

The three-storey Metro Tabernacle, an Assemblies of God church in suburban Kuala Lumpur, was set ablaze around midnight Thursday when two suspects smashed the windows on the ground floor and tossed inflammable materials.

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 6 - Symbols Art Club, a new platform for Malaysian Indian artists to connect and to express themselves, has begun by holding its first exhibition - Caves on Canvas.
The venue is the Batu caves that has a series of caves and cave temples, located in Gombak district, 13 km north of the national capital.
The caves house one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India, dedicated to Lord Murugan. It is the focal point of the Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia.
Two Malaysian Indians charged with aircraft engine theft

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 6 - Two ethnic Indians were Wednesday charged in connection with the theft and disposal of two jet engines belonging to Royal Malaysia Air Force (RMAF).
The two F5 jet engines went missing in 2007.
Sergeant N. Tharmendran of the RMAF was charged with theft and company director K. Rajandran Prasad with their disposal at the Sessions Court here, Star Online, website of The Star newspaper said.
Tharmendran, 42, claimed trial to a charge of abetting airman Mohamad Shukri Yusop in the theft of the two engines.
Drugs hidden with Indian prayer ash seized in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 5 - Malaysian airport police seized 150 kg of ketamine worth 2.7 million ringgit ($780,000), which were hidden among boxes of Hindu prayer ash from India, a news report said Tuesday.
The drugs were seized during a check on a container from Chennai, India, which was docked Wednesday at the western port of Klang, the New Straits Times daily said.
Customs officers discovered that the container, which also held spices and Hindu prayer paraphernalia, contained 130 boxes of ketamine, department Director-General Ibrahim Jaapar said.
Malaysian PM calls for calm after protests over 'Allah' ruling

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 4 - Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has appealed to fellow Muslims to remain calm as 13 non-governmental organisations protested against the use of the word "Allah" in a Catholic weekly, the Herald.
The issue needed to be "handled wisely", Razak said Sunday.
His government has decided to appeal against a high court verdict that permits the weekly to use the word on its masthead.
130 Malaysian Indians to attend diaspora meet

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 4 : A 130-member Malaysian delegation will attend the 8th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in New Delhi later this week. Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) president S. Samy Vellu will lead the contingent.
While Vellu and his party belong to the ruling coalition Barisan Nasional (BN), there is little likelihood of leaders of the opposition alliance Pakatan Rakyat (PR) attending the conclave this year, The Star said Monday.
It noted that PR constituents, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and the Democratic Action Party (DAP), attended the conclave last year.
Malaysians move to reduce sugar content in beverages

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 1 : Famous for their sweet tooth and reeling under sugar shortage, Malaysians are embarking on a campaign to reduce sugar content in food and beverages.
The health ministry is to meet with 60 representatives of the food and beverage industry to coax them to reduce the sugar content in their products, Deputy Health Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said Friday.
She would chair the meeting Jan 12 that would be attended also by representatives from the domestic trade, cooperatives and consumerism ministry.
Dance class comprising 12,000 people creates world record

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 1 : A whopping 12,000 people showed their dancing skills at the Esplanade in Malaysia to the break the Guinness World Record for the largest dance class.
Last year, the largest dancing class was set in Cebu, the Philippines, where 7,700 people took part.
And the participants in the latest event ranged from adorable three-year-olds to the elderly in their 70s.
Everybody engaged in 10 minutes of non-stop synchronised dance movements.
Help on the way for poor Malay Indians

Kuala Lumpur, Dec 31 : Selangor Malaysian Indian Congress Youth wing has established an understanding with the Selangor Welfare Department to register poor Indians in the state to help them get the assistance they desperately need.
Selangor MIC Youth chief Shanker Raj Ayanger said the cooperation with the department would start next month.
He added that representatives from the Welfare Department would participate in programmes organised by the MIC Youth at all 22 MIC divisions in the state to register the poor, especially the Indians.
Tamil schools to be relocated in Malay Indian areas for more enrolment

Kuala Lumpur, Dec 31 : The Malaysian Makkal Sakthi Party (MMSP) has recommended that Tamil schools with low enrolment to be relocated to areas with a substantial number of Indians to get better enrolment.
MMSP national youth chief N. Ramu said many estate workers had shifted to towns in search of greener pastures.
He said parents in towns are forced to send their children to national-type schools as Tamil schools are far from their homes.
Indian community can soon disappear in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, Dec 31 : The Indian community in Malaysia could fade away in time with most families preferring to have fewer children.
Malaysia Hindu Sangam deputy president Dr Balatharumalingam was quoted as saying that it has become a normal practice for Indian families to have only one or two children.
There is a possibility that the Indian population in the country would be reduced drastically and there is a possibility the community could disappear, Tamil Nesan quoted him, as saying. (ANI)
'3 Idiots' one of the best from Bollywood: Malaysian film critic

Kuala Lumpur, Dec 31 - Applauding the cast and crew of recently released hit film "3 Idiots", a Malaysian film critic described director Rajkumar Hirani's directorial venture as "one of the best from Bollywood".
If you want to find fault with "3 Idiots", it should be the title - for its wrong connotation. It has an intelligent storyline with acting par excellence, critic K. N. Vijiyan wrote in his review in New Straits Times.
