Coca-Cola Doesn’t Kill Sperms – A Study

Coca-Cola Doesn’t Kill Sperms – A Study According to Deborah Anderson, a researcher from Harvard Medical School, the popular drink Coca-Cola douches do not kill sperms. Nearly five decades ago, Coca-Cola was used as a contraceptive that worked as an after-sex spermicide that worked well among women in the third-world countries. But the results of a new clinical trial debunk the efficacy of Coca-Cola douches, the Australian Associated Press reported.

To test the use of Coca-Cola as a contraceptive, the researchers at Harvard Medical School embarked a placebo controlled clinical trial. When Coca-Cola mixed with human semen in a ratio of 5:1, it managed to immobilize 30% of the sperms within an hour. Researchers found that as compared to other popular spermicidal agents, Coca-Cola’s potency was relatively weak.

Anderson said, before the douche had a chance to work, the healthy sperm reach the cervix within seconds. She says the soft drink also damages the top layer of cells within the vagina, removes healthy bacteria and makes a woman more prone to sexually transmitted infections such as HIV/AIDS. The high sugar content of the drink also activated the bacterial infections in the vagina. Deborah Anderson recommends, “There is the simple fact that there are much more effective and easy-to-use methods of contraception widely available.”
