Dell to remain committed to the PC market

Computing giant, Dell has said that it will remain committed to the Personal Computer market even as its rival HP is looking to spin ff its PC operations.
While delivering his Keynote at Oracle OpenWorld in San Francisco, Michael Dell, chief executive of Dell outlined the gains from making and selling PCs. He said that reduced costs due to large scale production ahs helped the company offer servers at a lower rate.
India to play major role in Dell's networking plans

Chennai, Sep 13 : In its drive to become a total information technology (IT) solutions provider, the US-based computer hardware major Dell will double the headcount at its Force 10 Networks centre here, said a senior official.
Dell had recently acquired the US-based $200 million revenue networking company Force 10 Networks.
Dell to tie up with Baidu to develop tablets and mobile phones

Dell has said that it will tie with China's premier search engine, Baidu to develop tablet computers as well as mobile devices.
Baidu is showcasing its own upcoming Android-based mobile platform called Yi and also already launched a new mobile application platform last week. The platform is now available for to developers and works as a suite of tools to create mobile apps integrated with existing Baidu products.
Dell reports record quarterly earnings

On Tuesday, Dell Inc. reported record earning for its first quarter, comfortably beating the analysts’ estimates --- while the company’s large enterprise section showed record operating profit, the small and medium segment reported its highest net profit in the last two years.
Going by the quarterly earnings report put forth by Dell’s revenue from the large enterprise segment witnessed a 5 percent year-on-year rise to $4.5 billion; with that from the small and medium business increasing 7 percent to $3.8 billion.
Dell is the top PC seller in India

Hewlett-Packard (HP) position of the number one seller of personal computers (PCs) in India has been beaten by US Laptop major-Dell for the first time.
As per the latest reports by IDC India quarterly PC tracker, the overall PC market in India grew 34 per cent year-on-year in the quarter ending June. The PC sales primarily include of laptops and notebooks.
HP that has a long track record of dominating the Indian market for over six years recorded a market share of 14.3 per cent while Dell managed to grab a market share of 15.2 per cent in the second quarter (April-June) of 2010.
Dell offers settlement over accounting for deals with Intel Corp.

According to the official reports, Dell Inc. has said that it has proposed a settlement with U. S. regulators over the computer maker's accounting for deals with chip giant Intel Corp.
Dell said in a release that staff at the Securities & Exchange Commission agreed to recommend the settlement to SEC commissioners. The settlement would require approval of the SEC and a district court.
Dell is going to launch smart phones in India

Following the likes of Nokia and Apple, etc. now even the multi IT giant Dell has planned to join the fast growing mobile handset market in the world, by launching its own range of smart phones in India.
Dell, however, has not revealed the specific details of their plan or the exact date of launch of the Smartphone or even the date when the models will be made available in the country.
Talks are that Dell has sought distributors with retailing purpose.

More surprises come with Dell's tablet. It appears that it will come with a docking station that apart from charging will aid in connecting to HDMI equipment.
The connector that has a mini-USB port and a Line out, according to the images rolled out from Laptop mag, a technology news site.
Presently, though accessories have been put on sale, but the docking station nowhere features in them.
According to the vendors of Streak who stated that the docking station would be an expensive product and the accessories offered will comprise of three chargers and a stereo handset.
O2 bestows in-contract upgrade for Dell Streak

O2 will start selling the recent tablet from Dell- Streak from today and in addition to this it will proffer an in-contract upgrade on the smartphone, presumably on the smaller 16GB model, for as little as £299.
This news has been corroborated by the recent incident when a woman called up the O2 customer service asking to cancel her contract by reselling as she was not satisfied with her current handset. This was followed by a proposal for instant in-contract upgrade, instead of offering the normal fee. The upgrade offer is yet not cleared whether it applies to both 18 months and 24 months contracts.
Dell’s Streak tablet debuts in UK from June 4th

It is supposed to be rival against the iPad with its power packaged features. Akin to other recent smart phones, it utilizes an ARMDroid platform that is backed by 1GHz Qualcomm processor and Google Android.

This Android based tablet will be featured in the market in the coming month and will see itself in Europe and then in US markets.

Dell profit soars 52% on bumper sales

The first quarter profit of Dell has improved to 52% as the shipment jumped and revenue grew in each product segment. In after-hours trade, the shares of the computer maker have dropped 5.2%, even as a result of topped analysts' expectations. In the regular session, US stocks closed sharply lower, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average falling by 376 points.
The company along with the main rival Hewlett-Packard is riding a wave of stronger demand for server. Dell has informed that the recent rebound in commercial demand would continue to grow throughout the year.

Dell employee to face legal action

On Friday, Dell said that one of its former employee is expected to face civil and administrative charges. It would be so because the person has been found involved in accounting misappropriations during 2005.
The charges are going to be imposed by the SEC. The commission had been contacting and questioning several of Dell's former employees in the past. But till now, none of the current employees have been probed.
This information was given by Dell's spokesman, David Frink. He further added that the many former employees have been served the "Wells Notices."
Dell upbeat on India; sees $5 billion sales in China

US- based Dell Computers has said that it expects a big market in Asia, particularly from India and China. These two countries are going to be its major markets in the region.
From China alone, the third largest PC maker expects sales of $5 billion during 2010. This was said by the Chief Executive of Dell, Michael Dell during launch of its service business in China.
He further said that Dell would be spending $25 billion in 2010 to form contract with Chinese suppliers and contractors.
