New Delhi [India], Feb 16 : As per the International Data Corporation (IDC) India Q4 2016 smartphone market report, Lenovo has emerged as the second best smartphone brand in CY 2016 with 8.9 percent and 9.8 percent market share by volume and value respectively.
Fueled by aggressive product launches in mid-tier and premium segment, Lenovo MBG continues to grow across segments and has registered a 14.8 percent YoY growth.
According to the IDC Q4 2016 report, Lenovo MBG (comprising of Lenovo and Moto-branded smartphones) maintained its leadership in the online channel by 23 percent in volume and 23.5 percent in value market share in CY 2016.
Lenovo will be among one of the first companies to offer a Windows 10 tablet, with a new ThinkPad device which is all set to arrive in August.
The next-generation ThinkPad 10 will be loaded with Microsoft's forthcoming OS and is majorly meant for business users. The device will be launched with a starting price of $499.
The ThinkPad 10 is made available with a choice of quad-core Intel Atom processors, the X5 Z8500 or the X7 Z8700, which are part of Intel's 'Cherry Trail' line of processors.
Other option made available for the users includes either 2GB or 4GB of RAM, and 64GB or 128GB of internal storage.
Apart from the faster processors and a new USB 3.0 port, the ThinkPad 10 is otherwise very much similar to the previous generation.
On Thursday, world's biggest PC maker Lenovo said that its revenue rose 20% in its past fiscal year. However, net profits grew by just 1% to $829m due to increased operating expenses.
The net profit was slightly below the expected net average of $830.2 million by 26 analysts polled by Bloomberg News. It said that it was the slowest net profit growth in five years. The PC maker had seen its net profit rise 29% in the previous financial year, due to smartphone sales.
Rise in full-year revenues was happened due to purchase of Motorola and IBM's low-end server unit last year in order to diversify in the smartphone market.
London, Feb 04 : Lenovo has surpassed expectations by netting profits of 253 million dollars in the three months to December after sales in its smartphone division more than doubled. Analysts had earlier predicted profits of 200 million dollars and revenues of for the company.
The company also outdid revenue expectations as it posted a 31 percent rise and netted 14.1 billion dollars as opposed to forecasts for 13.7 billion dollars in sales, reported the BBC.
In a bid to diversify the PC business, Lenovo acquired Motorola and IBM's low-end server unit last year.

Washington, May 22 : The world's biggest computer maker Lenovo has jumped 29 percent in its full-year earnings, bagging a net profit of 817 million dollars.
According to The BBC, the company sold 55 million PCs during the year, extending its global market share to 17.7 percent, when the overall industry saw an 8 percent fall in PC sales.
In addition to PCs, Lenovo also sold nearly 50 million smartphones and around 9.2 million tablets.

Washington, Mar. 02 - Special edition smartphones designed by Hollywood star Ashton Kutcher are reportedly set to hit stores this year.
Kutcher, a noted tech enthusiast, had been brought on board as a product engineer back in October and the first devices influenced by him would be available in 2014.

Washington, Feb 24 : Lenovo has announced updates to its Yoga range of tablets, including improved speeds and displays.
The company's earlier Yoga 8 and Yoga 10 Android tablets have been a miss due to their slow performance and poor displays.
However, the updated Yoga Tablet 10 HD+ version offers a greatly improved screen and a faster processor, The Verge reports.
According to the report, the Yoga Tablet 10 HD+ comprises of a full 1920 x 1200 HD panel, with greatly improved viewing angles and better pixel density.
Chinese tech giant Lenovo on Wednesday reported better-than-expected profit for quarter ended December 31, thanks to strong sales in both its personal computer (PC) and smartphone businesses.
The Beijing-based company reported an increase of 29 per cent in net income, from $204.9 million in the October-December quarter of 2012 to $265.3 million in the October-December quarter of 2013.
The third-quarter profit figure reported by the company is well above analysts' $247.2 million consensus forecast.
Washington, Feb 08 : After its Motorola Mobility deal with Lenovo is finalized, Google might own a stake in the Chinese PC maker worth 750 million dollars.
A regulatory filing has revealed that the search giant might own 5.94 percent stake in Lenovo after selling off its failing Motorola unit.
According to Tech Crunch, under the Google-Motorola-Lenovo deal, priced at 2.91 billion dollars, the PC maker has agreed to pay 750 million dollars in ordinary shares; 660 million dollars comprised of US cash, and the remaining 1.5 billion dollars in a three-year promissory note.
The acquisition of Motorola will put Lenovo in a better position to become a one-stop shop for in PCs, tablets and smartphones, according to Forrester Research analyst Frank Gillett.
Gillett said the acquisition of Motorola would enable Lenovo to compete in all three device markets and join the likes of Apple Inc.

London, Jan 7: Chinese firm Lenovo has unveiled a home tabletop touch-screen computer and people can now enjoy different photos, music and video on the same screen.
The 17.8-pound, 27-inch Windows 8 Pro machine, christened the IdeaCenter Horizon Table PC, should be available "beginning in early summer" at a starting price of $1,699, the company said.
"Horizon makes personal computing interpersonal computing with shared, collaborative experiences among several people," said Peter Hortensius, president of Lenovo's product group, according to the Daily Mail.

According to Gartner's report, the worldwide PC market share of Lenovo surpassed that of HP during third quarter; with Lenovo shipping a total of nearly 13.8 million PC units vis-a-vis the 13.6 million PC units shipped by HP.
