The Japanese electronics maker, Toshiba is planning to launch its Thrive tablet computer in the US on 10 July.

Toshiba Thrive tablet’s pre-orders will begin on June 13th at Best Buy, along with the usual "office superstores" and "e-commerce players," and will launch in the US market.

Toshiba said that its basic model will be priced at $429 comes with wi-fi ability and is targeted at consumers who use tablets at home. The 10.1-inch tablet runs Android 3.1, and comes in three sizes: 8GB ($429), 16GB ($479), and 32GB ($579).

Many new features are added by the company in this laptop, and the most distinctive feature is the ability of its keyboard to keep it away from dust.

Toshiba Corporation has roped in master blaster Sachin Tendulkar as its brand ambassador across its product categories and for corporate branding in the Indian market.

Japan's electronics giants Fujitsu Ltd and Toshiba Corp announced that they have decided to amalgamate their mobile phone operations and commenced a new company by October this year.

In a joint statement, the two companies stated that Toshiba is to transfer its cell phone business to the new company, in which Fujitsu is eyeing to get hold of a majority stake.

Reporting its April-June quarter results on Wednesday, the electronics conglomerate said that its net loss widened to 57.8 billion yen, from the year-before net loss of 11.6 billion yen. The analysts in a Thomas Reuters' survey had estimated the company's loss to be 38.4 billion yen.

Tokyo - The Japanese electronics firm Toshiba Corp said Wednesday that its losses in the April-to-June quarter rose to 57.8 billion yen (610 million dollars) from
11.6 billion yen in the same period last year as the global economic downturn affected consumer demand for electronics.

Operating losses in the first quarter of its fiscal year also widened to 37.59 billion yen compared with a loss of 22.88 billion yen it incurred during the same period a year before.

Sales were also down 17.2 per cent to 1.34 trillion yen.
