The Prius Plug-In by Toyota, the Japanese automaker is already commercially available. The company launched another model in the series named as the Prius Prime. The new model is quite much different from the previous one.
The new car receives many noticeable changes on exterior. For instance, changes in anterior and the grille of the vehicle. The front end of the Prius Plug-In looks outdated and plain, while the new model is more defined grille design that's connected to the slim headlights. There is a major facelift on its overall shape.
The new design has a lower arching back making the side windows appear longer. On the other hand, Plug-In has traditional aerodynamic styling of the original Prius cars. The Prius Prime has sporty design and its back is almost unique.
Toyota Motor Corp’s newest effort to reduce its risk from potentially lethal air-bag inflators supplied by Takata Corp involves purchase of millions of them from smaller parts maker Kayaku Co.
The Japanese car maker talked to the second-tier supplier to boost production in a bid to supply more than 13 million inflators from next July until 2020. The move is a pragmatic approach, prompting more than 10 automakers to issue a recall of tens of millions of vehicles since 2008 to replace Takta air bags.
Eight deaths are believed to have resulted from Takata air-bag inflators and more than 100 injuries after exploding with excessive force, spraying shrapnel inside vehicles.

According to the survey, the company's Toyota and Lexus brands top the ranking, while its Scion brand is in the top ten, Fox News reported.

New Delhi, May 7 : Indo-Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota Kirloskar Motor Wednesday launched Etios Cross -- its first cross-over between a sports utility vehicle (SUV) and a hatchback -- priced between Rs. 5.76 lakh and Rs. 7.40 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
"The B-car segment is one of the fastest growing segments in the industry. Segment growth comes along with fast changing customer requirements," Naomi Ishii, managing director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor was quoted in a statement as saying.
Japan-based Toyota Motor Corp. has announced its plans to introduce a new series of fuel-efficient engines that will cut fuel costs for vehicle owners and help manufacturers meet tighter emissions regulations.
Toyota said it would introduce a total of 14 engine models in the new series fuel-efficient engines over the next couple of years. The new series start off with 1.0 and 1.3 litre gasoline engines.
The impasse between the management and workers of Toyota Kirloskar Motors Ltd continued despite the automobile giant lifted the week-long lockout at two of its plants in Bidadi near Bangalore.

Bangalore, March 25 : Toyota India has hired about 1,000 people on contract to resume production as a stand-off with its trade union continued Tuesday over its employees not signing an undertaking for good conduct before resuming duty.
"As employees are not joining duty even after the eight-day lockout was lifted early Monday, we have taken about 1,000 people on contract to resume production," a company official told IANS Tuesday, citing a statement issued earlier.
Bangalore, March 24 - The stand-off between Toyota India and its agitating employees continued as they refused to sign an undertaking for joining duty after eight-day lockout was lifted early Monday.
"As we are against giving or signing any undertaking, none of us has entered the factory for the first shift beginning 6 a. m.," Toyota Kirloskar Motor Ltd. union president Prasanna Kumar told IANS here.
A defiant management has been insisting that the workers should be give an undertaking to abide by rules governing their work ethic and conduct.

Bangalore, March 21 - Toyota India has agreed to lift the lockout in its twin car plants five days after shutting them down over a failed wage hike deal with its employees.
"The decision (to lift lockout) was taken considering the inclination and in the interest of the majority of law-abiding team members," Toyota Kirloskar Motor Ltd said in a statement hours after talks with its workers' union ended in presence of a senior state labour official here late Thursday.
The company, however, has asked the employees to give an undertaking on good conduct before resuming work Monday.

London, Feb 13: Toyota is reportedly said to recall1.9 million of its best selling Prius hybrid cars in order to fix software faults in its flagship vehicle.
More than 400 reports have been received by Toyota pertaining to software problems, with most of them coming from Japan and North America.
However, Toyota said that no accidents were reported over the defect and added that in some cases, the hybrid system might shut down and the vehicle would stop while being driven, the BBC reported.
