Computer dating service signs agreement of settlement with unhappy clients

Rob McKennaWashington's attorney general has said that the Seattle affiliate of a computer dating service signed a settlement agreement after unhappy clients filed a lawsuit.

Seattlepi. com has reported that the suit, filed Tuesday against the Bellevue-based DMZ Group, LLC, a subsidiary of Great Expectations, alleged that the service had been making promises it didn't deliver on and made high-pressure sales pitches for fees of thousands of dollars.

Seattlepi. com also said that the settlement includes no admission of wrongdoing.

Attorney General Rob McKenna said, "Anyone willing to pay for assistance in finding a soul mate deserves to know exactly what they're signing up for. This settlement will help ensure singles receive upfront, accurate information from Great Expectations before they seal the deal."

The report further said that the Washington state attorney general's office has received almost 60 complaints about the service since 2006.

It has been shown by the court records that the DMZ Group must pay $37,000 in restitution to eligible Washington clients, $47,000 in state attorneys' fees and costs, and a $5,000 civil penalty. An additional $30,000 in civil penalties was suspended, on condition that the company adheres to the terms of the settlement. (With Inputs from Agencies)
