A latest study conducted in US reveals that people who use wrong font on their computers suffers from various eye disorders like computer vision syndrome (CVS).
The study is commenced by the Vision Ergonomics Research Laboratory and funded by Microsoft, discovered that using right font on the computer can help eyes from various disarrays.
During the research, it was found that Verdana is the friendliest font for users working for long on computers along with the font size of 10-12.
The study was conducted by examining different people working on computers for long hours either from home or from workplace in US and Dr Jim Sheedy, the lead author of the study and a professor of optometry at the Pacific University claims that almost half of the people using computers in US are found to be suffering from CVS.
He also said that if the font size is less than your threshold size, then it become difficult for the reader to read the font. Therefore it will lead to read the font with uncomfortable posture.
Computer Vision Syndrome covers all types of eye disorders which occur due to excessive use of computers.
Dr Sheedy said that this research proves to be beneficial for both the individuals in the interest of their health and companies to increase their work efficiency. He also said that around 60-90% of people using computers or other electronic devices suffer from eye and vision disorders.
The symptoms attached with the CVS are tiredness, sore eyes, eye strain, dry eyes, red eyes, fatigue, repeated headaches, burning in eyes, pain in and around eyes, glare sensitivity, difficulties in focusing, excessive tearing, contact lens discomfort, double vision, periodic distortion of near and distant vision.
Earlier many studies have been conducted on people spending 3 or more hours on computers and found that 35-90 percent have eye disorders.
India has launched, Sankara Eye Hospital, an eye care institute in Karnataka, to treat CVS. This is a 'Computerized Vision Therapy/ Training Clinic and Experience Center'.
Dr RV Ramani of Sankara Eye Care Institutions said that young school and college going students are facing various vision disorders due to the long extended exposure to electronic gadgets. He also said that young professionals who are exposed to computers during their work hours are almost addicted to their gadgets like laptops, mobile internet, mobile social networking etc.
