Consider nuclear energy to overcome power shortage: PranabNew Delhi, Sep 29 : Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday said that India should consider nuclear energy as a source to overcome power shortage and fuel economic growth.

Mukherjee said this while addressing an international conference on ''Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy'' in the national capital.

“Our all requirement of energy will only be met by considering nuclear and non-conventional resources,” Mukherjee said.

“Quality power is essential requirement for growth, our conventional sources are not at all adequate to achieve the desired energy output in terms of electricity generation,” he added.

He further said that the overexploitation of conventional resources could impact on the environment in a killing manner.

Mukherjee also released commemorative coins on Homi Bhabha, the architect of the country''s nuclear programme.

Meanwhile, Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Anil Kakodkar said India is set to play an important role in growth of the nuclear sector after its re-entry in global nuclear trade. (ANI)
