Controversy looms over Booker Prize winner Aravind Adiga

Controversy looms over Booker Prize winner Aravind AdigaIt was recently reported in a British daily that the Booker award winner ‘Aravind Adiga’ sacked his agent who helped him in winning the august prize. The 34 year old Aravind recently bagged the most coveted award in literary arena for his debut book, 'The White Tiger'.

The news came into limelight when the internationally renowned literary firm, William Morris Agency according to 'The Sunday Telegraph' reported that Aravind parted ways when he won the award. The person of the agency, Cathryn Summerhayes who supported the awardee said, "I guess you can call it being 'sacked'. No reason was given why, he just sent a letter to the US office to say that we would no longer be representing him, but that we would still look after the book rights. I don't think you will find, however, any publisher who said we didn't do a great job on the book and no one had a bad word to say about us."

But the author on the other hand denied the charges saying, "The story in the British newspaper Telegraph is absolutely incorrect. Initially I had an agent in New York and the relationship between us had ended in November 2007." Aravind added that the relation didn’t work out as with his ‘principal’ agent, as the latter believed that the author is not making enough money. The 50,000 pound award winner falsified any claims of ‘sacking’ the agent.
