Coroners perform autopsy on Travolta's son

Coroners perform autopsy on Travolta's son New York  - Coroners in the Bahamas were performing an autopsy Monday on John Travolta's 16-year-old son Jett, who died Friday after suffering a seizure while on holiday.

Results of the autopsy should clarify the circumstances of the tragic incident in which the teenager was found unconscious on the bathroom floor in the Travolta family's luxury vacation home.

It is unclear how long the boy had been lying there or whether his death was due to the grand mal seizures he is reported to have suffered from or from striking his head.

The Travolta family has said that Jett suffered from a rare disease called Kawasaki Syndrome, but widespread reports also say that he suffered from autism.

On Sunday, John Travolta and his wife, actress Kelly Preston , issued a statement saying they were heartbroken over their son's death.

"We are heartbroken that our time with him was so brief. We will cherish the time we had with him for the rest of our lives," read the statement. "Jett was the most wonderful son that two parents could ever ask for and lit up the lives of everyone he encountered."

The statement continued, "We have received many messages of condolence from around the world and we want to thank everyone for their prayers and support. It has meant so much to us. It is a beautiful reminder of the inherent goodness in the human spirit that gives us hope for a brighter future." (dpa)
