Dhule (Maharashtra), Oct. 8 : Curfew continued for the fourth consecutive day in Maharashtra''s violence-hit Dhule townon Wednesday.

Violence erupted in the old town area on Tuesday. So far, seven people have died and over 100 people have been injured in the clashes. Several shops were torched as well as damaged.

Congress party leaders claimed that the alleged involvement of their party in the incidents of violence would be investigated.

"What all actions I have taken, I am sharing with you. Already the collector has been intimated. Whatever political involvement, including that of our Congress (party) will be probed. I have met representatives of all parties. All of them are my well-wishers. All facilities for Medicare have been initiated. Be it medicine, food and all the needs are in place, nothing to worry," said Suresh Shetty, a Congress leader in Dhule.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra''s Minorities Minister, Naseem Siddiqui, has appealed for peace to be restored.

"All factions of the society are Indian citizens. We all belong to one society. They are the residents of Maharashtra. I have come here to appeal that there should be public peace and unity as before," said Siddiqui.

Curfew was imposed on October 5 following clashes in the Lal Kandil Chowk area after Hindus and Muslims over damage wrought to banners of a Hindu outfit.

Police had to fire in the air and use tear-gas to control the mob. Additional forces were called in to bring the situation under control. (ANI)
