Czech court throws out October 9-10 snap poll
Prague - The Czech Republic's Constitutional Court Thursday struck down an early general election set for early October, in a move that is likely to trigger a new snap poll in November.
The top court sided with a challenge against a one-off law that allowed a snap poll to be slated for October 9-10.
The judges cancelled the law and a separate presidential decree setting the election date, chief judge Pavel Rychetsky said.
Lawmakers are now expected to finish amending the constitution, a process they began on Wednesday, so they can sidestep the court's verdict and force through a snap poll later this autumn.
If all goes as planned, the parliament's lower house could be dissolved next week and the vote could be held in early November. (dpa)
