Deadly Bird Flu Killed an Indonesian Woman

Woman dies from Bird Flu in IndonesiaJakarta: An Indonesian woman, 24, has died of deadly bird flu on the Christmas Day, according to the health officials. It has taken the total number of bird flu deaths in Indonesia to 94.

Muhammad Nadhirin, an official with ministry’s bird flu information centre, said, “The woman died on Christmas Day early in the morning and tested positive for bird flu.”

“She bought a live chicken in the market and slaughtered the chicken there before taking it home. But we’re still investigating the cause,” he added.

The woman was tested positive to two laboratory tests. She fell sick with H5N1 virus symptoms on December 14 and later was admitted to Cengkareng hospital in West Jakarta on December 19, where she died on December 25, the official reported.

Indonesia has the highest number of human deaths from deadly H5N1 virus.

Scientists fear the virus could mutate into a form easily transmissible between humans, and would spark a global pandemic potentially killing millions.
