Dell is the top PC seller in India

Dell is the top PC seller in IndiaHewlett-Packard (HP) position of the number one seller of personal computers (PCs) in India has been beaten by US Laptop major-Dell for the first time.

As per the latest reports by IDC India quarterly PC tracker, the overall PC market in India grew 34 per cent year-on-year in the quarter ending June. The PC sales primarily include of laptops and notebooks.

HP that has a long track record of dominating the Indian market for over six years recorded a market share of 14.3 per cent while Dell managed to grab a market share of 15.2 per cent in the second quarter (April-June) of 2010.

The third position has been filled by Acer. The reason for this phenomenal growth of Dell has largely been its exciting product portfolio, strong channel support and an effective after sales service network.

This has led to sustain its management position in the competitive market. The report also further mentioned that overall the PC market grew by 5.8 per cent in India.

This trend of growth is likely to continue in the near future especially with the initialisation of 3G services in the country. This will not only drive growth in the overall PC market in next year but will also increase the competition, particularly in the mini-notebook PC and notebook PC segments.
