Dental insurance options for veterans who don’t get VA dental care

Healthcare options for veterans are increasingly growing with programs like the Choice program. Veterans can get care through these programs in their area from civilian providers. But there has not been much work done in regards to veterans with dental care.

Many veterans have only one option, i.e. dental insurance, unless a veteran is eligible for the VA dental program. However, according to VA, for many veterans this is not even an option since many are not able to afford dental insurance, especially when it comes to those transitioning from the military.

The Veterans Administration does have dental care programs for veterans, whereas the requirement to comply with eligibility criteria are more severe compared to the necessities for healthcare. Even after qualifying for VA Healthcare, a veteran may not qualify for VA Dental Care.

It was reported in a previous article in Inquisitr that one option is to pay money for dental procedures and it is a good option when a veteran doesn’t require much care and just a cleaning is needed.

Those who can’t afford a cleaning, they can go for a free cleaning. Recently, Aspen Dental volunteers offered free cleanings to veterans. According to WNDU, three hundred dental practices in 31 states said they will provide care to veterans.

According to Veteran Brandon Bownman of Mississippi, he could have certainly not benefited from it. As per Bownman, “It makes me feel like I’m appreciated, makes me feel like not only was my time well served but that there are people that do understand that veterans or combat veterans like myself go through a lot and it feels good when there’s someone there”.
