Digvijaya welcomes CBI probe into Indore mall case

Digvijaya-Singh-CBIMadhya Pradesh former chief minister and Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh has welcomed the state high court's order to get the alleged corruption in the construction of Treasure Island mall in Indore probed by CBI.

On Thursday, the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court directed the CBI to probe the allegations that Digvijaya Singh bent the rules to permit the construction of the Treasure Island Mall in a residential area.

Following the High Court bench order, Digvijay said, "I welcome the decision. must investigate and punish me if I have done any thing wrong."

Using micro-blogging site Twitter, he claimed that the Treasure Island mall was the first mall in Indore and now most popular also.

Centrally situated on Indore's Mahatma Gandhi Road, the Treasure Island Mall was erected in an area that had been marked for residential purposes only under Indore's 1991 master plan. But, Digvijay gave a special permission to allow its construction on a 25,000 sq ft plot.

The petitioner, Mahesh Garg, alleged that Digvijay bent rules to provide unlawful benefits worth crores of rupees to the shopping mall's promoters.

The High Court has directed the CBI to submit its report within six months.
