Doctors Call Off Strike After RJD MLA Surrenders

Doctors Call Off Strike After RJD MLA SurrendersThe 5-day-old junior physicians strike in six administrative medical colleges as well as hospitals came to an end yesterday after RJD MLA Surendra Prasad Yadav, who was involved in the firing at a hospital in Gaya, surrendered before a court.

The disturbed physicians decided to end the strike after spokespersons of Junior Doctors' Association together with state BJP chief Dr C P Thakur and state IMA officials made an appeal to chief minister Nitish Kumar.

Nitish promised them of strict action against those accountable for firing at two interns of Anugrah Narain Magadh Medical College & Hospital at Gaya on January 30.

The state administration also took on their two other demands, comprising ratification of Health Professional Protection Act and effectuation of Senior Residency Scheme in Bihar.

IMA's Dr Sahajanand Prasad Singh stated, "The CM assured us that the government would soon enact the Medical Professional Protection Act while Senior Residency Scheme is also under the government's consideration."

Mr. Yadav, followed by his attorneys, surrendered before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (Gaya) R N S Pande and was sent to judicial custody.

On Thursday, district and sessions judge disapproved his anticipatory bail appeal.

Yadav's two guard, who allegedly started firing at the interns, are already in lock up.

As per Sarfuddin, a new bail appeal will be lodged in the court of district and sessions judge.
