In a shocking development, a pregnant woman delivered the baby outside the gates of the hospital as the doctors at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule district hospital allegedly denied her treatment.

As per reports, the 28-year-old woman, who is a resident of Jahageeraganj locality in Amdedkar Nagar, was taken to the hospital on Tuesday.

But, the medical staff denied treating her as she was HIV positive, and asked the family to take her to some other hospital in the region.

While the woman was on her way to another hospital, she gave birth to the baby just outside the gates of the hospital.

Social activist Manoj Mishra said, “Doctors and other medical staff refused to treat the woman, as she was HIV positive and asked the family to take her somewhere else.”

“The woman delivered the baby outside the hospital gates when she was being taken to another facility,” Mr. Mishra added.

District Chief Medical Officer Liaqat Ali stated that an inquiry has been started to investigate the whole incident.

"It is yet to be conclusively established that treatment was denied because the patient was HIV positive," he said.

Mr. Mishra, however, argued, that the hospital staff knew the pair very well as both had gone through HIV examinations in the same hospital.

When asked regarding the condition of the mother and the newborn, Mr. said, “They are under our supervision. Both of them are doing fine.”
