Dow reclaims 10,000 markNew York  - The blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average closed back above the 10,000 mark Thursday amid quarterly earnings reports that beat expectations across a wide swath of industries.

The rally overcame an earlier report by the government that weekly applications for unemployment benefits had been modestly higher than expected on Wall Street.

The Dow industrials gained 131.95 points, or 1.33 per cent, to 10,081.31. The average has been hovering around 10,000 since last week, when it reach five figures for the first time in more than a year.

The broader Standard and Poor's 500 Index rose 11.51 points, or 1.06 per cent, to 1,092.91. The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index added 14.56 points, or 0.68 per cent, to 2,165.29.

The US currency slipped against the euro to 66.563 euro cents from 66.61 euro cents on Wednesday. The dollar climbed against the Japanese currency to 91.325 yen from 90.97 yen. (dpa)
