Facebook’s new Graph Search tool will test CEO Mark Zuckerberg's balancing act
With Facebook having recently launched the new Graph Search service, the social network's CEO Mark Zuckerberg has to - as is mostly the case when some major new features are rolled out by Facebook - work out a balance between the company's need for revenue growth and the quality of user experience on the popular social networking site.
The new Graph Search tool will apparently test Zuckerberg's balancing act more than ever because the new feature is pitted directly against the Internet search giant, Google, which has a 12-year advantage when it comes to search technology.
However, looking at Facebook's launch of Graph Search from another perspective, if the service turns out to be as successful as Facebook has hoped, it will probably bring about the biggest-ever change in the Facebook user experience, vis-a-vis any other Facebook feature.
Since `search' happens to be one of the Internet's `killer' apps, along with e-mail, e-commerce, free voice calls, and digital entertainment, the Graph Search app can potentially be used widely by the Facebook users, provided that the app produces helpful results.
Acknowledging the prospective significance of the Graph Search feature, Zuckerberg said - during the feature's launch at an event held at the Facebook headquarters - that the new tool is one of the "three pillars" of Facebook; the other two being Timeline and News Feed.
