Food and Drug Administration has given approval to United Therapeutics Corp's Adcirca (tadalafil) Tablets for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension is a dangerous disease that constricts the flow of blood through the pulmonary vasculature. Adcirca contains the same active ingredient as Cialis (tadalafil) marketed by Eli Lilly & Company. PHD is often linked to other conditions such as heart or lung disease, infection with the HIV virus, and autoimmune disorders Tadafil is used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence) and it is more common in women.

Chief Executive Officer Martine Rothblatt said that the approval "is a big plus for all three Ps: patients, physicans and payors."
