Five servings of dairy products, key to lose weightObesity is increasing in epidemic proportions. Obesity increases risk of various diseases like heart problems and diabetes. Hence shedding extra pounds not only makes a person fit but also it increases quality of life by decreasing risk of various diseases.

Recent study has shown that regular intake of 5 servings of dairy products along with a low calorie diet could help in losing weight. Research team studied the effect of dairy products on weight loss in obese patients.

Research team from the Curtin University, Australia analyzed the data collected from 40 obese patients over a 12 week weight loss trial. Study subjects were divided randomly into two groups. First group took three servings of dairy products while the other group took five servings within a lower calorie diet.

Data analysis showed that study subjects who had five daily servings of the dairy products daily had higher mean levels of weight and fat loss as compared to the study subjects who took only three servings. Study subjects with five servings also showed higher fall in systolic blood pressure rates.

Curtin University's Wendy Chan She Ping Delfos said, "Participants who had five serves of dairy and engaged in resistance exercise had similar health benefits to participants consuming five serves of dairy only."
