Four suspected ULFA militants killed in Assam

Guwahati, Aug 13: Four suspected ULFA militants were shot dead by security forces in Bongaigaon and Nalbari Districts of Assam during two separate encounters early this morning.

Police recovered two pistols and a grenade from the slain militants in the first encounter that took place at Jelkajhar in Bongaigaon District.

While a pistol and a motor cycle were recovered from two other militants, who died on the spot in another encounter that took place at Satemari in Mukalmua area of Nalbari District at around 3: 00 a. m.

In the wake of general strike and call to boycott Independence Day by the banned ULFA and some other militant groups of the North-East from Wednesday mid-night, high alert has been imposed across the state.

Security checking and patrolling in all the vulnerable areas have been intensified as Intelligence agencies had pointed out that the banned outfit might try to carry out their subversive activities to make an impact on the Independence Day.

Train movement during night hours has been suspended all over the State from 6:00 p. m. on Monday and it will continue till 5:00 a. m. of August 16 to ensure security of passengers in the run up to the Independence Day celebration, official sources said. (ANI)
