The French divided over Nicolas Sarkozy’s ladylove Carla Bruni

London, January 21: President Nicolas Sarkozy’s new girlfriend Carla BruniThe French are reportedly divided over whether or not President Nicolas Sarkozy’s new girlfriend Carla Bruni, who joins him at the end of an official visit to India this week, would make a good first lady.

Many are against Sarkozy’s decision to marry her just three months after reluctantly getting divorced from Cécilia, his second wife who left him for another man.

Nadine Morano, an MP and Sarkozy supporter, has admitted that some people think that the President is moving too fast after falling in love with Bruni at a dinner party only two months ago.

“People are worried for the happiness of the president,” Time Online quoted Morano as saying.

The internet edition of the conservative Le Figaro newspaper recently invited responses from its readers on what kind of a first lady they thought Bruni would prove to be.

Most people posted negative responses about her reputation as a serial “man-eater” who is on record as saying, “Monogamy bores me terribly.”

Bruni is said to have a long list of conquests, which includes rock stars Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton and American billionaire Donald Trump. She is also known for leaving a publisher named Jean-Paul Enthoven for his philosopher son Raphael Enthoven.

There are fears that Sarkozy’s relationship with her might have an impact on the governing Gaullist party’s prospects in municipal elections in March.

“When I voted for him last year I didn’t know Nicolas Sarkozy was such a show-off,” Marie-Elene Mulot, a retired teacher and former Chirac supporter, said in Paris.

“And I certainly didn’t think that we ran the risk of having Carla Bruni as first lady. All this vulgarity makes me ashamed for France,” she added.

However, there are some who think that Bruni would prove much better than Cecilia. This, they say, would be due to her upbringing in an Italian palace, her education and intelligence, and her command of three languages.

“She knows how to behave at state banquets, she knows about current events, poetry and art. Why should anyone care if she has been photographed in the nude?” said one fashion journalist. (ANI)
