Gaza/Tel Aviv  - Palestinian militants fired another rocket into southern Israel Friday morning, after a day of pin-point Israeli airstrikes which retaliated against more such rocket attacks.

Israeli security forces were still tracking down the rocket's landing place, a military spokesman in Tel Aviv said.

Israel bombed four smuggling tunnels in the southern Gaza town of Rafah Thursday night, after destroying a fifth tunnel earlier in the afternoon.

A third airstrike in the morning against a group of gunmen in central Gaza who had fired an anti-tank missile at an Israeli border patrol killed two Islamic Jihad militants, while a senior commander of the radical faction died in a strike on his car in northern Gaza Wednesday night.

The Islamic Jihad had vowed to revenge his death.

Palestinian militants fired a total of 10 rockets at Israel Thursday, one of which landed in the courtyard of a synagogue in the evening, causing no injuries.

Altogether, militants in Gaza have launched more than 140 rockets and mortar shells at southern Israel since January 18, when it ended a ferocious and deadly 22-day offensive aimed at curbing such attacks. (dpa)
