Gang involved in stealing gas busted

The city crime branch claimed to have busted a racket involved in stealing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from domestic cylinders in Thergaon.

The crime branch officials arrested two suspects in the case. The agency seized 39 domestic cylinders meant for distribution in Wakad, Thergaon and adjoining areas, two commercial cylinders and two auto rickshaw cylinders worth Rs2 lakh.

The police found that the suspects had transferred 53 kg of gas into the empty cylinders from 31 sealed cylinders.

Police solve woman's murder

The city crime branch and Khadki police station authorities claimed to have solved the case of a woman's murder after the arrest of a suspect on Wednesday.

Senior citizen Kidnapped, robbed

Around five unidentified persons allegedly kidnapped a 63-year-old senior citizen and robbed valuables worth Rs86,000 from him before pushing him down a valley near Bhor on Monday night.

The victim, Sadashiv Rama Banjan, a prominent electronic goods showroom owner, is a resident of Shivajinagar. Following Banjan's complaint with the Faraskhana police in this regard on Tuesday, the police have booked five suspects.

Frenchwoman murdered in the Philippines, three suspects arrested Manila  - A 54-year-old Frenchwoman was shot dead in the Philippines and three suspects, including a Frenchman, were arrested for alleged involvement in the murder, police said Thursday.

Genevieve Sonia Mas, who arrived in the country last December, was killed while riding a tricycle in San Carlos City in Negros Occidental province, 540 kilometers south of Manila, on Tuesday.

Executive held for rape attempt

The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested a city-based senior executive of an MNC, for his alleged attempt to rape a Mumbai doctor.

The accused has been identified as Sameer Pareeja (40), assistant vice-president of a Pune-based MNC firm.

The Mumbai police arrested the accused from Bangalore. Police said that Pareeja posed as Raj, working on a World Bank project in Tokyo, and met the victim on an online matrimonial site, Jeevansathi.com.

Mumbai police said that while exchanging photographs, he allegedly forwarded her pictures of a male model instead of his own. The 35-year-old doctor, however, mailed him her original photographs.

Vietnam busts prostitution ring of fake students Hanoi  - Vietnamese police have arrested a woman for procuring call girls who masqueraded as university students, a police official said Thursday.

Police in Ho Chi Minh City arrested Le Thi Anh Tuyet, 29, on Wednesday after surprising four couples engaged in liaisons she arranged at a hotel.

Mai Van Tan, director of Ho Chi Minh City's Department of Social Order Crime Investigation, said Tuyet, a former sex worker herself, had advertised that the 20 call girls in her employ were university students to attract customers.
