Police solve woman's murder

The city crime branch and Khadki police station authorities claimed to have solved the case of a woman's murder after the arrest of a suspect on Wednesday.

Her body was found in a lift of a building in Dahanukar Colony in Kothrud on February 12. The identity of the victim was ascertained a week ago.

A team headed by police inspector (crime) Vijaysinh Gaikwad, senior police inspector Ashok Shejal of Khadki police station and assistant inspector Ashok Shelke made the arrest after receiving a tip-off.

The deceased Shevanta Dnyaneshwar Jadhav (35), was a resident of Happy Colony in Kothrud. Jadhav's husband had died two years ago and she was staying with her three children in a hut in Happy Colony. Jadhav used to work as a maid servant.

According to the police, the suspect Javed Kasim Sayyad (23) of Happy Colony was demanding sexual favours from the deceased, but she refused.

On February 12, Sayyad took the deceased to Chandravimal residency building located in Tejas Society, Dahanukar Colony. He had worked as a casual labourer during the construction of the building. He smashed her head with stones and kept her body in the elevator. He allegedly stole her jewellery and fled.
