Tata Motors partners Japan firm for eco-friendly fuel plant

Pune, June 8 : Tata Motors Wednesday inaugurated an eco-friendly, dual-fuel power generation facility in partnership with a Japanese company.
The facility, located in the Tata Motors' plant here, has been set up jointly with New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organisation (NEDO) which has worked on the project for the past two years, an official said.

Pune, Nov 21 - It has been a hotspot for education, IT and auto projects. And Pune is now showing a penchant for fashion by attracting well-known designers and embracing the latest trends.
"Pune is a hotbed of cultural activity and it is a perfect destination for a fashion city. So we decided to bring season two of Pune Fashion Week (PFW)," Badal Saboo, its managing director, told IANS.
No Bollywood, only fashion on first day of PFW

Pune, Nov 19 - Even though fashion and Bollywood go hand-in-hand in India, the first day of the Pune fashion Week (PFW) Thursday was packed with the display of designers' collections but had no signs of Bollywood glamour.
The day witnessed four shows by designers Raakesh Agarvwal, Surily Goel, Mandira Wirk and Puneet Nanda of Satya Paul.
All the designers showcased outstanding collections inspired by varied elements but without any celebrity from Hindi filmdom, who usually make a beeline for fashion weeks.
Pune trees uprooted due to damaged roots, limited space; botanists

Botanists has said that the reason behind a number of trees being uprooted after the showers on Monday and Tuesday in Pune is mainly due to damaged roots and limited space for the trees to spread out.
About 40 trees were uprooted in the Pune Municipal Corporation's (PMC) limit and there are about 150 reports in total about fallen branches and uprooted trees. The construction and tarring of roads might have caused damage to the roots making them weaker.

19-Year-Old Boy Arrested In School Boy Beheading Case

According to police officials, a 19-year-old boy has been detained with regard to the murder of a school child who was beheaded on an island near Pune.
The detained suspect, Ashish Mapre, was said to be part of the trio who murdered the 15-year-old Abhishek Ghorpade in cold blood on May 5, cut off his head and strung up the body on a tree.
In addition, two minors have been arrested for questioning in the case, the police officials said.
Volkswagen may open the Chakan plant to other automakers

After investing a whopping Rs. 4,000 crore into its plant, sources believe that the company is weighing the option of offer its Greenfield plant premises at Chakan near Pune to other automakers for contract manufacturing.
As per sources, Company already has two interested candidates in the form of home-grown Maruti Suzuki and Malaysian carmaker Proton. It is believed that since the production volumes have been low since it started operation in December 2009 at the plant, it has led the company to weigh options like contract manufacturing at its plant.
Bridgestone will set up new plant in Chakan

As per a report by a leading news channel, the world's largest tyre maker, Bridgestone is going to set up a new plant in Chakan in Pune. The new plant will be a CV radial plant. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Maharashtra Government for such a project. The company wants to enter to the Indian market with its full force.
Institute to train PMC staff

The Pune Municipal Corporation has planned to start a training institute for its employees soon. This will be responsible for the training of the PMC staff. The PMC is looking forward to reform its administration and recruitment process. PMC believes such training will enhance efficiency and accuracy of the employees. It is expected to bring transparency in recruitment process as well.
Mr. K C Karkar, the Deputy Municipal Commissioner has informed that such programs are initiatives towards the administrative restructuring in the organization. The training institute will fine-tune the skills of the civil employees.
Bajaj may pull its plug out of Pune for its 2,000 crore project

While the company had earlier kept Chakan as a priority area for its ambitious three and four wheeler plant but as the company is facing difficulties in the process of acquiring additional land, it is looking at various other locations for its Rs. 2,000 crore project.
Notably, the company currently owns 250 acres in Chakan and need an additional 100 acres for starting the manufacturing plant but since it is not able to do so as expected earlier, the company is weighing different options of destinations like Pantnagar and Aurangabad.

SSC Board To Provide Time Concession To Autistic Students

For the first time, the Maharashtra State Board for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has decided to offer up time concession to autistic pupils, appearing for the secondary school certificate (SSC, class X), which starts on March 04..
According to the statement released by the board's Pune division, pupils suffering from autism will now be permitted 20 minutes additional for a one-hour exam, 40 minutes for a two-hour exam, 50 minutes for a two-and-a-half-hour exam and 60 minutes for a three-hour exam.
Pune Police is reaching out to students to increase awareness on terror

In an attempt to increase awareness on terror following recent blast, Pune Police is reaching out to over four lakh students in the city.
"We want them to be alert all the time and inform us if they find anyone suspicious," said Satyapal Singh, Pune Police Commissioner.
Just in last three days, top cops have met with over 45,000 students from 70 colleges across the city.
The police will turn its attention to the IT sector after colleges.

Pakistan-born, American citizen, David Headley, had identified Pune’s German Bakery as a potential target during his visits to city Pune, investigators have confirmed.
The police also hope to get a breakthrough in the case “very soon”.
“Investigations are on the right track, in the right direction,” a senior home ministry official said, emphasising that the security agencies had broadly identified the people who were involved.
On Wednesday, Home ministry officials said it was increasingly becoming clear that plans for Saturday evening’s blast that killed 11 people were made on the basis of Headley’s recce.

Framed pictures of Ankik Dhar (23), his sister Anindi (19) and friend Shilpa Goenka were covered in garlands on Monday, as school mates and former classmates gathered to mourn them.
The three youngsters were killed in Saturday’s blast at German Bakery in Pune. The memorial was held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan in Salt Lake, Kolkata, where the three youngsters had studied till they moved to Pune a few years earlier.

Indian scientists discover three new species of bacteria in atmosphere

Pune, Jan. 8 :Scientists of the Indian Space Research Organisation recently discovered three new species of bacteria in the atmosphere which are highly resistant to ultra violet radiation. The bacteria is not found on earth.
The scientists discovered these species during balloon experiments in the upper atmosphare at a height 41 kilometers above the earth’s surface, which they say were totally new species.

Pregnant woman burnt by husband

Pune, Jan 2 : A pregnant woman was allegedly burnt to death by her husband after she quarrelled with his mother in Maharashtra's Sangli district, police said Saturday.
Twenty-year-old Sangita Shivaji Patil, who was six months pregnant, had a bitter argument Tuesday with her mother-in-law Hansa Naiku Patil, 55, at their home in Lingnur village, about 150 km from here.
The miffed mother-in-law then stormed out of her home, ignoring appeals to stay on from her husband Naiku Patil and son Shivaji, sub-inspector P. R. Sawant of Meraj police station told IANS.
