State bodies want IHF elections

Several units of the IHF form a front of sorts and contemplate legal action

Several office bearers of state hockey associations have formed a front of sorts and are even contemplating legal action in a bid to ensure elections of the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF).

"The IHF elections are due in April and we are wondering why there has been no announcement of the same," said JB Roy, President of the Bengal Hockey Association (BHA), who addressed a press briefing here along with some 28 office-bearers of state units.

Indian Ice hockey team prepared for IIHF Challenge Cup

International Ice Hockey Federation Ladakh, Feb 15, : Indian Ice Hockey team is practising very hard in Jammu and Kashmir's Ladakh district for the 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Challenge Cup which is scheduled to be play in Abu Dhabi this March.

The second Asian Ice Hockey Championship will be played in March 15-21 this year.

Twenty Ice Hockey players and five standby players, all from Ladakh were selected last week for the international event.

Indian hockey team lose a golden chance in Punjab Gold CupChandigarh, Feb. 9, : Indian Hockey team lost a golden opportunity on Monday by losing to Netherland during the final match of the Punjab Gold Cup hockey tournament here.

India lost the match 1-2 to the Netherland, who had outplayed Olympic Champion Germany 7-1 in the last league match on Saturday.

Both the teams were goalless at the end of first half. But, in the 44th minute, Sandeep Singh sounded the board with a sharp low shot on the right of Dutch goalkeeper to put India ahead.

For Germans, Jan Philipp Rabente (14th minute), Lim Kevin (21st), Moritz Furste (34th) and skipper Tobias Hauke (38th) scored, whereas from India Tushar Khandekar (12th) and skipper Sandeep Singh (64th) found the goals.

In its earlier matches, Germany looked quite low in spirits, but on Friday they came back strongly defeating the hosts by a comfortable margin.
