Sushil to lead India's charge at Commonwealth Wrestling

New Delhi, Dec 8 (IANS) Beijing Games bronze medallist Sushil Kumar will lead India's charge at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship to be held in Jalandhar from Dec 17.
Ramesh Kumar, who won the bronze in the World Championship has opted out citing an injury problem.
The tournament, which was originally scheduled to take place in Delhi as a preparation for the Commonwealth Games, will see wrestlers from Australia, Iran, England, Bangladesh, Canada, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Nigeria and Pakistan taking part in the four-day event at the PAP Indoor Stadium.

Shobha Yadav is a middle-aged milkman in Bharathara in Varanasi, living in a hut with his three sons and two daughters. Yadav once used to wrestle in akhadas abounding this village but it’s now the turn of the new generations. But he doesn’t have a clue what sport his youngest son Ram Asre is involved in, nor has he any idea where in the world he will be off to soon.
His village buddies told Yadav that his son is a judoka and was 'videsh' bound but they too had idea just where this teenager was bound to.

The three-day wrestling event, which is being held at Motilal Nehru stadium here, was inaugurated on Friday.
G S Mander, President Of Indian Wrestling Association, said: “Immediately after commonwealth games there are Asian games on 10 December 2010. We are not only prepared for commonwealth games but also for Asian Games and after that for London Olympics also.
“We performed well in Asian Championship. We also hope to perform well in Asian games too," said G S Mander, President Of Indian Wrestling Association.”

New Delhi, Sept 26 : Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. M S Gill on Saturday said that Indian wrestlers are set to deliver well at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and the
2012 London Olympics.

Ramesh Kumar has broken a long standing jinx after winning the bronze medal in the 74kg category at the World Wrestling Championship in Herning, Denmark on Wednesday.
After a poor first period, the 27-year-old wrestler defeated Alexandr on technical points after the repechage round ended with both the wrestlers tied at the score of 7-7 On Wednesday night.

In a crucial match, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awardee and Olympic bronze medalist Sushil Kumar closely missed out on a medal at the Wrestling World Championships in Denmark.
Giving his best in the opening rounds, the Indian wrestler stormed into the semifinals of the 66 kg freestyle.
However, 26-year-old Sushil lost at a decisive stage when he met world number two Rasul Djukaev of Russia.

Indian grapplers bagged 21 medals, including nine gold medals in the recently concluded Asian Cadet Wrestling Championship in Pune. The tournament was held from 29th July to 2nd August and players from 22 countries participated in various events of the tournament.
India won 9 medals including five gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze medal in the men's free style event. Deepak bagged gold medal in 50 kg weight category and Harphool won gold medal in 54 kg category.

Suresh Yadav of India won gold medal in 60kg weight category of the Greco Roman Style event while Navjot Kaur bagged gold medal in the 72 Kg weight in the female style today.
Sakshi Malik (59kg) won the silver medal in the female style and Anju Chaudhary (51kg) added bronze medal to medal tally of India.

Indian start wrestler, Sushil Kumar has won the gold medal in the German Grand Prix Freestyle and Greco Roman tournament which held in Dortmund on Sunday.
Sushil has bounced back to win gold medal in the tournament as earlier he missed a tournament in the Thailand as he had gained extra weight.
Sushil, the Beijing Olympic bronze medalist, won the gold medal in the 66 kg freestyle category in the Grand Prix Freestyle and Greco Roman tournament which lasted for three days.

National wrestling championship starts in J-K

The 26th junior boys and 9th junior girl's national wrestling championship at Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor stadium would give a shot in the arm for sports activities in the region, said J-K Sports Minister Babu Singh.
