German industrial production jumps 2.7 per cent in SeptemberBerlin  - German industrial production jumped more than forecast in September, data released Monday showed, adding to signs of recovery in Europe's biggest economy.

Adjusted for price and seasonal changes, output rose by 2.7 per cent in September, to record its second consecutive monthly increase. This comes after gaining an upwardly revised 1.8 per cent in August, the Ministry of Economics and Technology said.

Analysts had expected industrial production would post a rise of 1.7 per cent in September.

The increase in output in September brought the rise in the third quarter to a strong 3.5 per cent.

The rise in industrial production in September followed a strong 7.5-per-cent increase in output in the nation's key mechanical engineering sector, combined with a solid expansion in the nation's car industry.

However, production in the building sector contracted by 1.8 per cent during September.(dpa)
