Germans see herbal liqueur as oldsters' drink

Nuremberg/Cologne - Herbal liqueur is for old people and cocoa is for kids. This, at any rate, is how Germans generally look at it, according to a representative survey by a Nuremberg-based market researcher, Konzept & Analyse, and Cologne-based Respondi, an online panel for opinion and market research.

The survey of 1,238 people aged 14 and older found that consumers often associated drinks with certain age groups, and that herbal liqueur was still felt to be a drink for the elderly despite some brands' popularity among nightlife-loving youth. Cola and energy drinks, on the other hand, had a youthful image.

Most of the survey's respondents, who were asked to match various drinks with age groups, rated milk as age-neutral.(dpa)
