Getty Images Might Pay You For Posting Photo on Flickr
Flickr on Tuesday entered in a partnership with Getty Images. Getty Images is the world’s largest distributor of pictures and video and Flickr is a photo service provided by Yahoo. The partnership between them will allow users to make money from photography. Getty editors will comb Flickr in search of interesting images as per conditions of partnership. Yahoo’s photo-hosting community will be a new resource for Getty where members would be asked to post high quality pictures and they will be paid for their high quality images.
Flickr members will have to wait for some time to get their images posted in the special Getty gallery. Getty and Flickr are also encouraging new photographers to post their contents on the Getty-owned, iStockphoto. Flickr-hosted images will get a special link to the Getty page where they can purchase a license to use the shot.
Flickr members must sign a Getty Images contributor contract in order to get paid and allow their images to be used. The agreement also highlights the rates of photos based on their size and intended commercial usage. The rates are not yet available but these are deemed to be standard rates of Flickr. The company will an average of $250 for non-exclusive use of images and gives photographers about 20 percent.
As per conditions of agreement, the transaction will be shared between the photographer and Getty and yahoo would not be able to get share of fees. According to yahoo’s representative, Getty and Flickr will have a separate business relationship.
