GJM hunger strike enters fifth day
Kalimpong, Feb 2, : Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) supporters are continuing with their indefinite hunger strike for the fifth straight day here on Monday.
The strikers had listed six demands, including insuring the safety and security of Gorkhas and Adivasis in the Dooars region of Jalpaiguri District.
The medical condition of the striking workers is stated to be very serious and two are critical. Strikers have reportedly refused to accept medical aid offered by the State Government.
GJM General Secretary Roshan Giri said they are fighting for a right cause and are ready to make the supreme sacrifice.
"All strikers have refused medical aid offered by the State Government, and they are ready for the supreme sacrifice," Giri said.
A magistrate and a medical team have been posted at the agitation site, Police said.
The reopening of 13 closed tea gardens in Dooars and the withdrawal of all legal charges against GJM supporters has also been included in the charter of demands.
Seventeen GJM supporters began their hunger strike on January 29. (ANI)
