Google sharing user data with app developers

Google sharing user data with app developersIt has been alleged that Google is sharing user information including email addresses and other details with app developers.

An Australian software developer said that the company is providing personal information about the users, including customers' full names, email and some postal code information of all the users who have purchased the mobile app. It is believed that the information was intentionally provided to the app developer and it was not a result of any issue with the systems.

Google's existing policies for its app store and its Google Wallet payment service allow the company to transfer such details to the app developers. Some privacy advocacy groups have said that the company has not been clear on explaining the terms to the users.

Marc Rotenberg, executive director of the Electronic Privacy Information Center alleged that the company did not seek express consent of the users on terms of sharing of their information and it simply included the notice in its lengthy privacy policy documents.

Rotenberg said, "Meaningful consent is about people understanding what they're getting into. It's about not tricking them. In a situation like this, where people just don't know what information is being transferred or who it's going to or for what purpose, it seems ridiculous to say that Google has consent."

The company said in a response that the Google Wallet service shares the information needed to process transactions, and this procedure is clearly stated in the Google Wallet Privacy Notice.
