Governor Vetoes California Smoking Ban

Governor Vetoes California Smoking BanCalifornia governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has vetoed a bill, which would have banished smoking in all state parks and beaches, calling it an inappropriate interruption of administration into people's lives.

Arnold, an avid smoker who even set up a special smoking tent outside his office, thinks that such steps should be assigned to cities, regions and local park functionaries.

He also thinks that the step will not help much in controlling litter on California's immeasurable boundaries.

The state presently has 278 state parks and 64 beaches.

In his veto message, former muscle-builder and action movie star wrote, "There is something inherently uncomfortable about the idea of the state encroaching in such a broad manner on the people of California."

"This bill crosses an important threshold between state power and command and local decision-making."

The bill would have enforced a $100 penalty on those who will not follow the rule.

However, the bill does not cover state-owned camping areas and parks as well as a vehicle recreation region in San Luis Obispo County. (With Inputs from Agencies)
