Currently, an incoming expatriate male Indian is allowed to worn or carry 50 per cent less gold than a female traveller. Under India's Customs & Central Excise Rules 1967, a male travelling to India can carry gold ornaments worth no more than Rs 10,000, and a female to bring gold ornaments worth Rs 20,000.
