Govt. doctors in Orissa threaten to move in for mass resignation campaign

The implementation of various measures which were announced by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik six months ago, have not been implemented till now and thus has agitated doctors working in public hospitals in Orissa. That is why; approximately 3000 doctors have decided to protest against the delay of the implementation of rules by following a mass resignation on August 27.

“The chief minister had made a six-point announcement in the assembly which includes that doctors would get a salary of Rs 8,000 with Class-I status at the entry level, special allowance of Rs 3,000 per month, transparency in transfer service, restructuring of posts and security to doctors on duty,” as reported by Orissa Medical Service Association (OMSA). None of the made promises have been kept and thus, the doctors working in public hospitals in Orissa have taken up their own way to protest against the Government.

Madhusudan Mishra, OMSA president reported on Friday, “Over 3,000 doctors working in government hospitals will tender their resignation from their posts to protest against the non-implementation of announcement made by Mr. Patnaik.”

It has been really long since conflicts between doctors and state administration started rising due to low wages and allowances of the doctors in Orissa as compared to other states in the country. Thus, the fresh MBBS graduates migrate to earn better since they are not provided with any noticeable facilities in rural areas.

This is nit the first time that the protest has been made by the doctors. Earlier in February too, doctors had threatened to initiate a statewide resignation campaigns due to failure on the government’s part to fulfill their long made demands. Thus, this had made the chief minister to announce the said points on the floor of the house, but no constructive action was taken. The same issue was yet again arisen by the OMSA in the month of May but to no avail.

The state administration now seriously needs to take up some decision as soon as possible before the agitated doctors turn in for the resignation campaign. After all, it’s the question of nearly four crore people who are residing in these villages.
